Book Club

On behalf of Mrs. Gruchot:

Lincoln Lunch Time Book Club

Leveled Reading – Ms. Eyman Mustafa – Lincoln Elementary School

Do you like to read books and then discuss them with friends? Well, join our book club and meet every month to talk about books!  Join Mrs. Gruchot for a lunchtime book club (lunch & recess) to discuss some really good books!

Who: 4th and 5th Graders

Where: Our Media Center

When:  Once a month during lunch and lunch recess (bring your lunch!)

The expectation is that students in the book club will read the selected book for the month. Our discussions are much more meaningful when all students read the story and are ready to talk about it!  Remember, even if you do not like a book, you will still need to read the book so you can join in the discussion.  Due to a limited number of copies of the books, the first 18 students with a signed permission slip, will receive a copy of the book. jgruchot@sjschools.org

Math Touchpoint:

We have begun our new unit all about fractions! Typically fractions can be conceptually tricky for students to grasp. To support your student’s learning at home, helping them connect fractions to everyday activities such as cooking, sharing, time, measurement, etc. is key. Currently we are working on reviewing fair share problems where students identify what fraction of a whole each person would receive.

For example: 3 people would like to share 2 cookies. What fraction of the cookies will each person receive? The division expression to represent this would be 2 ∻ 3. Each friend would receive of the cookies.  A representation of this could look like:

Fall Student-Led Conference Sign Ups:

This round of conferences will take place with your student’s homeroom teacher. If you have questions or concerns about the content areas being taught during switches and your student’s progress in those areas, please contact Ms. Griffith for Math, Ms. Karpus for Social Studies, and Mrs. Kern for Science.

Dear Families,

Forms need to be completed by Friday, October 4th.

On Tuesday, October 8 from 3:55 pm-4:15 p.m. there will be a Kickoff Meeting in Mrs. Fiesbeck's classroom. If you have any questions please reach out to Mrs. Fiesbeck directly at lfiesbeck@sjschools.org

Missing School = Missing Learning Opportunities

  • Missing school sometimes is unavoidable. When it does happen, please remind your student to check in with all three teachers for work that needs to be made up after returning. We try to keep up, but we would also like students to take initiative too. Let us know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Homework:

  • Please read at least 25 minutes each day.

    • Consider reading and discussing a book together.

    • Ask:

      • What did you learn about the main character?

      • What did that chapter make you wonder?
