Unit Assessment on Friday, October 18! Students will be able to use their notes from the unit, but it will be a good idea to review things at home as well!
Science:
Mystery #4: Do worms really eat dirt?
Mystery #5: Why do you have to clean a fish tank but not a pond?
Math Touchpoint:
We are off to a great start in section of Unit 2. This week students will continue using the area formula (length x width) to solve for the shaded area of a rectangle with at least one fractional side. In order to do this, students must be able to multiply a whole number by a fraction and, oftentimes, a mixed number by a whole number. Please see the links below to assist them with this learning goal.
Videos
Video #1: Multiplying a Whole Number by a Fraction
** Video #2: Multiplying a Whole Number by a Mixed Number
** Video #3: Multiplying a Whole Number by a Mixed Number
**This is where students typically start to struggle.

Social Studies Creativity
Monday we will be making Totem Poles! We don’t have enough cardboard rolls for every student yet, so if you acquire any toilet paper or paper towel rolls over the weekend, please send them in to school on Monday! We want to make sure everyone gets a chance to make their own Totem Pole! Thank you!
Science Spotlight
The last couple of weeks have been an exciting time of learning about the critical role of decomposers in an ecosystem. Through seeing which substances slow or quicken mold growth on food and observing worms in different environments, students have gotten a front row seat to how decomposers break down nutrients and in which environments they thrive.
Here are some pictures from all three classes:
